The problem

A commercial client had around 10 individual areas of damage across a public skatepark — areas ranging from 10cm² to 50cm² each, worn from constant use and weather exposure. The skatepark was otherwise in very good condition. The park was closed for the full duration of works.

The cause

A public skatepark takes constant impact and abrasion from use on top of normal weather exposure, wearing the surface down faster than most concrete structures. The damage was surface wear rather than reinforcement corrosion or structural failure.

What we did

  1. Rapid-setting concrete repair mix. A rapid-setting concrete repair mixture was used, chosen for its setting speed and strength — on a public facility, return-to-service time and durability under impact are both critical.
  2. Cure seal spray. A cure seal spray was applied to each completed repair. The cure seal slows the drying process, preventing the repairs from drying too quickly and cracking — particularly important on an exposed outdoor surface in variable weather conditions.

The result

Completed over 2 days by one person. The skatepark was closed for the full duration and reopened once all repairs were complete and the cure seal had been applied. Specifying the right product for the environment — rapid-set for strength and return-to-service, cure seal to protect the curing process — is what produces repairs that hold up under continuous use.
